MOONLIGHT RECITAL
IN FALL OF 2007, Ms. Buchanan will be performing her Moonlight Recital. The moon has enchanted and captivated composers throughout history. In her “Moonlight Recital”, Oni Buchanan will explore different aspects of the ever-changing face of the moon as seen by a diversity of composers. Selections include Debussy’s lush Clair de Lune and Beethoven’s regal Moonlight Sonata. Ms. Buchanan also considers one of the moon’s night-sky neighbors in the work Star Burning Blue, a piece by contemporary Canadian composer Kelly-Marie Murphy which roughly depicts the lifecycle of a supergiant star. And no moonlight recital would be complete without an array of Nocturnes by such moonlight visionaries as Chopin, Barber, and Fauré.
The complete Moonlight Recital program will feature:
Chopin, Nocturnes Op. 9, Nos. I and II
Debussy, “Les sons et les parfums tournent dans l’air du soir”
La danse de Puck
Clair de Lune
Kelly-Marie Murphy, Star Burning Blue
